Sometimes, larger-than-life cases need a larger-than-life attorney. Emil R. Infante, our managing partner and Chair of Real Estate and Construction Litigation Team and our Latin American Practice Group, fits the bill.
Successful businessmen, established companies, and financial institutions beat a path to Emil’s door for his unique brand of hands-on and personal attention and passionate advocacy. His hold-nothing-back style has seen him fight for clients deep in the Amazon jungle, in courtrooms in the Southern District of New York, in the halls of our State and Federal Legislatures, and, on one memorable occasion, in a back alley in Panama (just ask him about it).
Emil’s brings his hands-on style to every facet of his professional life. He has extensive experience in real estate development and construction, having served on the boards of several real estate opportunity funds, as well as managing his family’s considerable real estate portfolio. And he has personally lead or advised clients in the construction of private and public projects during the procurement, implementation, administration and post-completion phases of residential, commercial and infrastructure works. Most recently, Emil is proud to have lead the team that was recognized as the “Law Firm of the Year” by the Latin Builders Association.
At the same time, Emil is well-known for resolving difficult disputes, having served formally and informally as a mediator and facilitator between litigating parties.
His background also makes Emil a natural to lead our firm’s Latin American legal matters. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Emil is an alumnus of the Sacred Heart University, Puerto Rico. In 1997, he obtained a Master’s Degree in International Affairs from the University of Dayton, and his Juris Doctorate from St. Mary’s University in 1999. He also completed The Program of Studies on Global Legal Issues at the University of Innsbruck, Austria in 1998 under the tutelage of Chief Justice William Rehnquist. Emil also earned an LL. M. from the Georgetown University Law Center in Securities and Financial Regulation. He is now an annual guest lecturer at the University on current cross-border issues, and he created the Emiliano Infante Scholarship Fund, in honor of his father, to send economically challenged minority students to study abroad at summer legal programs.
His contacts throughout Latin America are extensive, and he regularly represents his elite clients in matters there. To cite some examples, he is presently advising a major mutltinational company on high-profile securities litigation in Guatemala, and he serves as one of the primary outside counsel to Goya Foods.
His entrepreneurial spirit led him to create and head the Infante Professional Athlete Group of Raymond James and Associates, where he specialized in handling of financial affairs for professional athletes, and, later, cofound Infante Zumpano. Emil is an accomplished marksman, Muay Thai fighter, and an amateur Formula 1 racer, having trained in Europe with top European drivers, including at the Francorchamps Formula One Track in Belgium and Nurbergring in Germany. But with a busy practice and three young children, he is most often content these days to squeeze in a round of golf on the weekends.
