Chair, Real Estate DepartmentKatherine.Fortuny@InfanteZumpano.com
Direct: 786-345-2122From the first hand-shake to the closing table, from loan to Courthouse steps, Katherine Amador-Fortuny is known as the “dirt lawyer” who gets deals done. And as Chair of Infante Zumpano’s Real Estate Department, she leads a team of seasoned real-estate litigators and dealmakers ready to tackle any client objective.
On the deal side, Katherine has represented buyers, sellers, developers, and lenders in real estate transactions, restructurings and developments for mixed use, office, retail, industrial, multi-family, single-family community, undeveloped land, and other types of properties located throughout the country. She has represented opportunity funds, insurance companies, asset managers, banks, publicly traded companies, private companies, developers, entrepreneurs, technology companies, non-profit organizations, and government agencies on a variety of real estate transactions and developments.
On the litigation side, she has represented clients – in court and out of court – in disputes involving purchase and sale contracts and options, secured loans, inter-creditor agreements and agent disputes, management and operating agreements, ownership and control, title matters, and commercial leases (including eviction and forcible detainer actions, and rights of first refusal matters).
With the collapse of the real estate market, lenders have sought Katherine’s advice and aid in enforcing their secured claims, including foreclosure, receivership, guaranty enforcement and disbursement issues, as well as defending lender liability and bad faith claims. Likewise, local and foreign opportunity investors rely on her experience in distressed asset acquisitions, and she has helped clients acquire significant residential, commercial, and resort developments and assets.
In recognition of her vision and leadership, Katherine was recently recognized as a 2011 Woman Extraordinaire by Business Leader Magazine. She is also a founding member of the Florida Fiduciary Forum, an organization that seeks to promote the highest ethical fiduciary standards among real estate receivers and similar fiduciaries. Katherine is an active Member of the Dade County Bar Association and the Cuban American Bar Association.
A true Miami native, she received her J.D. from the University Of Miami School Of Law in 1997. A mother of three beautiful children, Katherine also makes a mean arroz con pollo.
